Payroll and Benefits Specialist

We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll and Benefits Specialist to support our dynamic accounting and HR functions for the Axiom Zen portfolio. You are an experienced and collaborative individual with a high level of attention to detail who can come aboard to provide strategic execution on payroll areas.

You understand that technology companies move fast and that leaders need accurate and timely data to inform decision making. You have a hyper focused attention to detail, with high intrinsic motivation to get to the correct answer to satisfy your own curiosity.

 Together, we will build out robust and scalable processes and workflows from which Axiom Zen can optimize the growth and development of its existing portfolio, while augmenting the foundation from which we will launch the next wave of leading technology companies.
What we'll accomplish together
  • Process Bi-weekly and off cycle payroll for both Canadian and US employees (different pay schedules)
  • Ensure taxable benefits are in compliance with company policies as well as regulatory requirements
  • Book payroll and benefits related journal entries, including cost allocations and payroll accruals
  • Reconcile Salaries, Benefits, Employer Health Taxes, as well as WCB general ledgers
  • File and remit WCB and EHT
  • Issue T4, T4A, 1099, T2200, W2 and other tax forms per legislative requirementsReconcile benefits invoices on a monthly basis
  • Request and review ROE issued by the payroll service provider
  • Analysis and implementation of potential taxable benefits for payroll implications
  • Lead the sourcing and implementation of a new payroll system
  • Administer crypto token grants vesting and delivery by providing calculations of withholdings, updating payroll system, and verifying legislative remittance for both employees and contractors
  • Assist with IDMTC, SRED, and other Government subsidies applications and potential audits by providing customized payroll reports
A little about you:
  • You are a designated payroll professional with 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including strong knowledge of Canadian and US payroll and benefits
  • You have the ability to research & deal with payroll changes and compliance issues with minimal guidance
  • You have demonstrated success in environments that require managing ambiguity and multiple deadlines among various stakeholders and can quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • You are excited about emerging technology like blockchain, SaaS, mobile apps, AI, and machine learning
  • You have solid proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly in Excel), and Google Suite
  • You are flexible and willing to go that extra mile to gain more knowledge and experience
